Programme Notes
Written for a saxophone quartet with an optional drums part, ‘Powerdrive!’ is an energetic piece that incorporates musical styles of funk and jazz, featuring a fast, groovy section at the beginning which is then followed by a slow, ballad-like section and a reprisal of the fast section at the end.
The title of this piece suggests an image of a road trip along a highway, driving a vintage race car, while taking a break halfway through to enjoy the scenic view of a sunset over the horizon, before continuing the journey to a destination that is yet to be decided.
